Carles is an architect from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona, where he graduated in 1969. That same year, together with four other partners, he founded Studio WE69 and began his work as a professional. He collaborated with the Oscar Tusquets Studio in the 1983-1985 period. Since 1985 he is a permanent collaborator of architect Cristian Cirici.
His most significant works include: the remodelling of the Lleó Morera Building by architect Domènech i Muntaner in Barcelona’s Paseo de Gracia, for which he received, together with Oscar Tusquets, the official 1988 City of Barcelona Remodelling Award; the Barcelona-Glorias business centre and offices, which was the former headquarters of Olivetti, the remodelling of the Vapor Llull industrial building in the Poblenou district of Barcelona, thanks to which he received the 1977 City of Barcelona Remodelling Award and the Teodoro Bonaplata Prize. He has created several residential buildings, such as the Residence for Students, located at 6-8 Allada Vermell street in Barcelona, and the old people’s home located at 210 Avda. de Madrid in Barcelona. He designed the Hotel Urban for Derby Hotels on the San Jerónimo street in Madrid, and the hotel located at 83 Enric Granados street in Barcelona. He also designed the deluxe Apartment Hotel at 83 Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona, in collaboration with Toyo Ito.
